We’re back!

Hooray, at last we can offer classes again. During the whole pandemic we were closed to classes then opened-up, following protocol, to keyholders. To become a keyholder you either have to have attended classes at Black Pig or can demonstrate previous training in printmaking. Above all we need to know that you’re safe to use the studio on your own. The charges are £10 an hour for classes and £6 an hour for open studio access (keyholders). All classes are currently full but vacancies come up frequently and often the wait for a place isn’t long. Contact me at christophermaxpig@yahoo.com if you’d like to be placed on the waiting list.

Black Pig Printmaking Courses in Frome

We have space for a maximum of five people at any one time. Because the class sizes are small there is plenty of one-to-one tuition. We meet people where they are and teach from entry level through to Phd and beyond.

As well as regular classes we also offer courses for teachers, art historians, curators and lecturers and one-to-one courses at £600 a day. We have taught Phd candidates and lecturers from the Courtauld institute, Sussex University, SOAS, and some senior researchers from the British Museum. These courses are planned according to the needs of the individual or group. For art historians we can not only show how various different prints are made, but we can actually make some of the materials as well. If you are interested in these classes contact Chris Pig at christophermaxpig@yahoo.com.

Unless otherwise stated, all courses are at the Black Pig Printmaking Studio, 13 Long Ground Frome BA11 1PJ.

Linocut

Linocut is extremely popular and the classes fill up quickly. A lot of space is needed to teach lino so classes are limited to 5. There is a class on Mondays from 7-9pm, Tuesdays from 10-12, 1-3 and on Thursdays from 1-3.

Each block of 5 sessions costs £100 and you have 7 weeks in which to use those sessions.

Etching

Etching isn’t taught as a class, one-to-one sessions are offered at £150 a day and is also available to keyholders. It’s best to book a regular slot by email.

Wood Engraving

The studio was designed with engraving in mind and, wood engraving, synthetic engraving and woodcut are now taught within the linocut classes.
